Houses of Parliament or new Palace of Westminster, together with Westminster Hall form a single pile of buildings, from a plan by Charles Barry. The new building is in the richest late Gothic (Tudor or Perpendicular) style, and covers an area of eight acres. It contains 11 courts, 100 staircases, and 1,100 apartments, and has cost in all about £3,000,000.
The imposing river front of the edifice is 940 feet in length. It is adorned with statues of the English Monarchs from William the Conqueror down to Queen Victoria, with their armorial bearings and many other enrichments. [text accompanying photograph]
The volume containing these images by an unidentified photographer bears the imprint "With H. and C. F. Feist's compliments" but no name, date, or place of publication, though the Feists were dealers in port wine, and Plate 30 demonstrates that the photograph must have been taken after 1902, and John R. Mendel offers evidence that it dates before mid-1906 [GPL].
