The Whole Duty of Man

Marblized endpapers for "The Whole Duty of Man". Each page: 7 1/8 x 4 inches. 1828. The handsome marblized endpapers contrast with the appropriately somber leather binding of this presentation copy of a very popular and influential evangelical religious text. The inscription on the flyleaf reveals that the book was presented to John Bovington, a young man entering his apprenticeship as a haberdasher.

Photograph and text by George P. Landow. [You may use this image without prior permission for any scholarly or educational purpose as long as you (1) credit the photographer and (2) link your document to this URL in a web document or cite the Victorian Web in a print one.]
