1697. Crystal, gild thread, hair. Private collection. This pendant of the Stuart Crystal type displays on the front (left) a meticulously woven mat of the hair of the deceased and his cypher in gold thread. In the pre-Victorian period, the ornament always included the details of the deceased, and here the verso (right) records his name, date of death, and age; in this case Sir W. F. Bau died on the 27th of November 1697 age 62.
