This illustration, which depicts Lucie and her new husband, Darnay, does not refer to anything that follows in this chapter, which contains Jarvis Lorry's telling Dr. Manette how he acted as the shoemaker prisoner of the Bastille for nine days and Mr. Lorry and Miss Pross's destruction of the shoemaker's bench.
