Hammerton particularly admires this illustration for George Meredith’s Evan Harrington (first published in Once a Week, February-October 1860), feeling that Keene is absolutely at his best in "his drawing of the two quaint brothers over their Madeira at the Aurora" (376). Andrew is pleading the cause of his wife's brother, Evan Harrington make a good marriage.
