Stanza x of Leonora

Leonora's mother cannot console her

Artist: Daniel Maclise

Leonora turns her grief on God in stanza x, rather than accepting the comfort offered by her mother, who looks disturbed by "grief so wild" and asks God to calm her daughter. Still outside the arches (the structures of her community), Leonora is oppressed by all the heavy scroll-work.
