An Imaginary Line

L. Raven Hill (Drawn by Himself.). Leonard Raven-Hill (1867-1942). Signed "LRH" lower right. Source: "Our Graphic Humourists: L. Raven Hill." The Magazine of Art (20 December 1896): 493. This self-portrait is typical in its attention to the more important part (the face), and its economy and fluidity of line in the rest (the shoulders, with just a suggestion of the lapel of his jacket). The artist looks directly at his work, assessing it, capturing the expression precisely.
