A Poor Girl and an Angel

Designer: William Aikman (1868-1959)

1926

St Matthew's, Ashford, Surrey

Vestry window, east

This is one of a set of five windows designed by Aikman for the newly added vestry. The longer texts are from Proverbs 31: "She spreadeth out her hand to the poor: yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy" (v.20), and "Her children rise up and call her blessed" (v.28). The angel's text reads: "Her own works praise her in the gates" (v.31).
