The dating of Carlyle's "Peter Nimmo"

G. B. Tennyson dates the poem before 1825, and David Masson dates it before 1821 (Tennyson, 62, n. 45). Tarr and McClelland agree that, although the poem could have been composed as late as 1830, the early 1820s seems the most likely date 135-36).
