Note 10, Chapter 5 of the author's Christina Rossetti in Context which the University of North Carolina Press published in 1988. It appears in the Victorian web with the kind permission of the author, who of course retains copyright.

Bell observes Christina Rossetti's extreme admiration for her sister's A [211/212] Shadow of Dante, and he cites Christina's frequent references to it in her The Face of the Deep (Christina Rossetti, 64-67). Lona Packer has located two copies of A Shadow of Dante that fully reveal Christina's interest in the work. One, which is in the collection of Harold Rossetti, she describes as containing "copious marginal notes and illustrations in pencil by Christina Rossetti." The other, in Oliver Rossette's private collection, also has "marginal notes by Christina Rossetti commenting on the text" (Christina Rossetti, 438).
