Letters, IV, 144 and VI, 228-29. George Eliot first expressed her admiration for Walker in a letter to Barbara Bodichon of 4 June 1872 (V, 277). The Leweses especially admired Walker's Harbour of Refuge in the Royal Academy Exhibition of that year.
