Thackerary's account book shows receipt of £12 in January and £5 more in February from George Nickisson. editor of Fraser's, for "Godesberg," but it was not published by that magazine (Ray, Adversity, p. 138). It appeared as A Legend of the Rhine one year later in George Cruikshank's Table Book, June - December 1845.
