Frederick Greenwood quoted the part of this letter that represents Duval's "autobiography" without noting the date. Ray reprinted from Greenwood and ascribed a September date (Letters 4: 392). Sutherland, unaware of the original letter, astutely ascribed a February date (Sutherland, Contracts, p. 183).
