Famous Publishers without Relations to Thackeray

Note 1 to Chapter 5 of the author's Pegasus in Harness: Victorian Publishing and W. M. Thackeray, which University Press of Virginia published in 1992. It has been included in the Victorian Web with the kind permission of the author, who of course retains copyright.

The names missing from Thackeray's business relations include some who were just as famous: Longman, Macmillan, Meson, Bohn, Routledge, Cassell, Constable, Collins, and Evre and Spottiswood. And he came close to doing business with John Murray and John Blackwood, whom he counted among his friends.
