Ore Car

It's been a long time — more than thirty years — since I assembled and painted these cars, but if I remember correctly, I built this unusual bit of rolling stock from an all-metal kit from Wabash/Red Ball and then fitted it with link-and-pin couplers, since I used it only with our oldest locomotives. Its small size — this car is really tiny — makes it well suited to a railroad with tight curves. Its light weight also meant it was well suited to the light trestle that supplies the coaling shed in the Albion yards. Bill Newkirk's beautifully designed logo for the AP&G looks particularly good against the yellow sides of the car that has it. Other ore cars appeared in plain black. [Another view]
