Man with a scythe C. Leighton. Engraving or photographic process. "Copyright 1933" is printed on reverse of image. Private collection. Purchased Abbott and Holder, London, c. 2000 Clare Leighton (born England-1899-1990) has two wood engravings on the Kansas University site, — one, Pulling Corn (1952) of women working in the fields and another Corsica Washerwoman (1934). Neither place a single figure against a blank space, but they have a similar concern with labor. An Alfred C. Leighton (1901-65) also painted a 1933 watercolor Still Life, Seebe that was shown at an exhibition by the Alberta Foundation for the Arts (Canada) [GPL]. |
