Highlander and Horses (1827) by Sir Edwin Landseer (1802-73). Source: “Studies and Sketches by Sir Edwin Landseer, R.A.” (1875): 68. “Lent by Messrs. Henry Graves & Co.” “The sketch ‘Highlander and Horses’ is in sepia on a piece of brown drawing-paper: it is a simple outline, as in the engraving. Two of the animals look like Shetland ponies; that nearest to the man is too large for a horse of this kind: the drawing of all three is excellent, so too is that of the man. ” (69-70).
