According tot he Watts Gallery, “The musculature was taken from the Italian model Angelo Colorossi, who was the basis for the original sculptural treatment of the subject, reminiscent of Michelangelo’s work. The focal point of both compositions is the elongated and turned neck, a recurrent motif in Watts’s work.”
