Very red-haired passenger: — “I say, Guard, why on earth don’t the train go on?”
Guard: — “Good gracious, Sir! Put your head in; how can you expect it to go on while the danger signal is out.”

Hardly enormously funny, this cartoon does demonstrate that the average reader was familiar enough with railway travel to have seen the guard standing on the platform near a train with his flag. And what a dreadful pun! — George P. Landow
