Statue of St. Mark

St. Mark's, Venice

St. Mark, who appears upon the highest pinnacle that crowns the façade of his church, stands on an ornate base supported by two lions, his symbols. Below and to the side of him angels with golden wings stand on ornately carved stone arabesques, which may represent clouds or waves.
