Orchard Bros.

1865

Victoria Road, Freshwater Bay

Isle of Wight

The shop with its adjoining accommodation, Alexandra House, is Grade II listed. From 1870, following a request from a local resident at that time, Julia Margaret Cameron, the grocery shop also served as a post office. It kept this function until the early 1950s, and is now a convenience store. Since it has its original shop front, it is listed as an "unaltered example of a High Victorian shop" ("Orchard Bros. & Alexandra House.")
