Chapter thirteen, note 2, of the author's The Liberal Catholic Movement in England: The "Rambler" and its Contributors, 1848-1864, which Burns and Oates (London) published in 1962. It has been included in the Victorian Web with the kind permission of the author, who of course retains copyright.
The article in the Civiltà Cattolica, "The Congress of Malines and Modern Liberties," was reprinted in the Dublin Review, n.s., II (Jan. 1864), 242-7. The article is said to have cost the editor, Fr. Curci, his position. See E. E. Y. Hales, Pio Nono (London, 1954), p. 284.
