Chapter thirteen, note 5, of the author's The Liberal Catholic Movement in England: The "Rambler" and its Contributors, 1848-1864, which Burns and Oates (London) published in 1962. It has been included in the Victorian Web with the kind permission of the author, who of course retains copyright.

Acton's summary of Döllinger's address appeared as "The Munich Congress," Essays on Church and State, ed. Douglas Woodruff (London, 1952), pp. 181, 182, 188; reprinted from the Home and Foreign Review, IV (Jan. 1864), 209-244. Acton had been present at the Congress.
