Chapter two, note 17, of the author's The Liberal Catholic Movement in England: The "Rambler" and its Contributors, 1848-1864, which Burns and Oates (London) published in 1962. It has been included in the Victorian Web with the kind permission of the author, who of course retains copyright.
This appears to have been an extension of his earlier articles. See letter of Bishop Grant of Southwark to Wiseman, 14 Jan. 185 1, Westminster Archives:
"Mr. Simpson of Clapharn is writing on Humboldt's Cosmos etc. in the Rambler, and he desired a friend of his to ask me about the decree in the case of Galileo."
