[Note 7, Chapter Three, in print version]

Although Richard D. Altick and James F. Loucks 11, Browning's Roman Murder Story: A Reading of "The Ring and the Book" (Chicago, 1968) does not raise the issue of typology, it shows many of the other uses of scripture made by Browning. The fourth chapter of Linda H. Peterson's 1977 Brown University PhD dissertation, "Robert Browning and Biblical Typology," sets forth the poet's uses of types for characterization and literary structure.
