Although Herbert Sussman's "Hunt, Ruskin, and The Scapegoat," Victorian Studies, 12 (1968): 83-90, points out that Hunt had read the second volume of Modern Painters and that the artist was interested in symbolism, it does not recognize that typology is a central issue.
