Richard F. Pfeiffer (1858-1945) was a German physician and bacteriologist who worked for a number of years with Robert Koch. Pfeiffer became Professor of Hygiene at Königsberg in 1899. He was notable for his new concept of endotoxins; for his observation of bacteriolysis; and for his histological stains. In the 1890s Pfeiffer introduced a typhoid vaccine independently of other workers. (Cf. Almoth Wright.)
