Door knocker. Harry Bates, A.R.A. Bronze. 9” h x 4” w x 5” d, on wooden base. Modelled in the 1880s, cast 1890s. The sculptor gave it to Alfred Drury. Private collection. The owner entitles this untitled work as the Medusa door knocker“,” but the nude figure, who measures the Venus de Milo with calipers, would seem to be an allegory of sculpture.
