Blackwall Tunnel Commemorative Plaque by Alfred Drury, R.A., 1856-1944. 1899.
"The bronze panel which Mr. Alfred Drury has recently executed to commemorate the completion of the Blackwall Tunnel is noticeable as a pleasant exception to the usual type of memorial label. It has both in general arrangement and in the treatment of its details a good deal of welcome originality, and as a piece of skillful modeling claims very sincere praise. The panel, which has been erected just inside the entrance-gate of the tunnel, at the top of the incline which leads down to the tunnel itself, was cast in bronze” by Messrs. Singer, of Frome, who have been unusually successful in retaining those excellent technical qualities which make Mr, Drury's efforts consistently interesting." — The Studio.
