Lady Elaine Maynard Falkiner née Farmer (1871-1900). Brookwood Cemetery, Cemetery Pales, Brookwood, Woking, Surrey, Greater London. According to the British Listed Buildings site, this carrara marble “ near-life size, barefooted figure is dressed in a Grecian dress, with appropriately dressed hair. . . [It] is an unusually vivid portrait for a memorial sculpture, and it ably captures Lady Falkiner's elegance. A South African by birth, Lady Falkiner died from illness contracted while running a military hospital during the Boer War. Listed for its sculptural quality and human interest.” [Click on the images to enlarge them.]
