The Museum label notes that the subject of this portrait bust “was a minister and the Principal of the Baptist College, Pontypool. This posthumous bust was commissioned by his son Thomas Henry Thomas (1839-1915), a naturalist, artist, and antiquarian, who donated many works to the Cardiff Museum and National Museum of Wales.”
