St John Ambulance Brigade Trophy
George Tinworth (1843-1913)
The Museum of the Order of St John
St John's Gate, Clerkenwell, London EC1M 4DA
In this trophy designed by George Tinworth, the Good Samaritan is shown ministering to the man who has been robbed and beaten (Luke 10, 25-37); the initials GT can be seen in the lower right-hand corner. The trophy used to be awarded to different local groups of the St John Ambulance volunteers by the South Metropolitan Gas Board to "promote the spirit of emulation in First Aid and Ambulance Work by an Annual Competition between the Stations," and now hangs prominently in the Museum of the Order of St John in Clerkenwell.
