Early Evening, Palace (or East) Pier, Brighton

Designer: R. St George Moore

1899

The main deck halls date from 1901.

One of the last seaside piers to be constructed in England, it cost 137,000 to build. The East Pier is about 1,700 feet long, 189 feet wide at its sea-end, and covers 2.5 acres. This is the original ironwork. Palace Pier has the biggest funfair on the South Coast, including its landmark Helter-Skelter.
