Lamp Standard ("The Burning Bush"), at the junction of Common Lane and Slough Road, Eton, by Henry Woodyer. 1864. This lamp standard, with its octagonal ashlar pedestal, wrought-iron shafts, and foliate decoration, carries a lamp with more playful ornament at the top: a small spire with mini-lucarnes. Originally for gas lighting, it was converted for electricity, but is no longer lit at night. The fanciful ironwork is typical of Woodyer, and the whole creation is much enjoyed as a meeting-point. Eton College Chapel can be see to the right.
