Binding for Milton's Comus

Albert Warren, designer

1858

Gilt blocking on red cloth.

8 x 6 inches

More restrained than usual, this design invokes the Renaissance imagery of Milton's neo-classicism. The radiating rosettes, embossed in blind on the red cloth, are a characteristic device. Signed in the form of a W with an A inserted within it; this appears in the central panel.
