The Allied Powers

Staffordshire pottery

1854

According to Priestly, The Allied Powers was "one of the many pottery ornaments and figures made to satisfy the vast popular inteest in the personalities and events of the Crimean War. In this group, made in 1854, Victoria is standing between Napolean III (on her right) and tyhe King of Sardinia" (p. 168). Contrast it to the Parian ware portrait of the queen intended for wealthier classes.
