The Fairies tie the Giant up in the Bean Stalk

George Cruikshank

1854

etching

14.3 x 10 cm vignetted

Facing p. 26 for "Jack and the Bean-stalk" in George Cruikshank's Fairy Library, Part Two (1865) with illustrations by George Cruikshank.

The story was originally issued in a thirty-two page, paperback format, 18 cm high by 13 cm wide, with six engravings, number ten in the series, drawn and etched by Cruikshank, in 1854. This plate is unusual in that the artist has incorporated his signature into the side of the mountain, right: "Designed & etched by George Cruikshank."
