[Druidic wedded bliss]

Gustave Doré (1832-83), artist

1862

The following words are part of Santine's recreation of a Druid wedding ceremony, though who knows on what authority: “S'il s'emporte contre toi, s'il te frappe, tu adresseras tes prières à Ésus, le dieu unique, sans accuser ton mari toute-fois, les torts ne pouvant être de son côté” (62).
