The eclectic Dulac draws upon Persian (or European medieval) painting for the gold-leaf sky (as he did in “Sinbad the Sailor entertains Sinbad the Landman”) and Japanese art for the waves. The total effect with the sailors flying topsy-turvey through the air resembles Heath Robinson's work.
