West Window (St Martin as soldier and as bishop)

Christopher Whall

Ordered 1891; installed 1892

St Martin's Church, Low Marple

Christopher Whall's window celebrates St Martin, to whom the church is dedicated, as soldier and as bishop. The texts at the bottom of the lights read, ""No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life" and "That he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier" (both are in the same verse, 2 Timothy 2,4). The order appears as no. 5082/189 in the list of James Powell & Sons orders for 1891 (p. 5 of 60).
