Note 22 to Chapter 3 of the author's George Eliot and the Visual Arts, which Yale University Press published in a 1979. It has been included in the Victorian web with the kind permission of the author, who of course retains copyright.

Haight, p. 58. Pictures of both the cast and the engraving are reproduced in Laski, George Eliot and Her World, p. 30. The print was made by Blanchard in 1844 for the Paris firm of Goupil and Vibert; it was published and marketed in London by their agents, Gambart and Junin (Maas, Gambart, p. 35).
