Meredith, an associate of Rossetti and the Pre-Raphaelites, modelled for Henry Wallis's The Death of Chatterton (1856). The artist then ran away with Meredith's wife — one of the central events in his imaginative life, and one to which his most famous novels continually return.

How does Meredith's style in either his fantasy or his more famous later novels relate to Pre-Raphaelitism? And, for that matter, how does his own poetry relate to that of the Rossettis, Swinburne, and others associated with the Pre-Raphaelite circle?
