1885

Embossed and gold-stamped paper

8 1/4 x 5 1/2

This lovely title page with its gold background reminiscient of the Victorian revival of intertest in medieval revival manuscript design, clearly conveys its ideals of youthful masculinity and its proper outdoor activities: fishing, rowing, skating, and cricket, only one of which is not solitary.
