“It is remarkable that the construction of a floating dock at Rangoon should hare been left to the enterprise of a private individual: but such is the case; and it is owing to the energy and perseverance of Mr. Edward Hopper that Rangoon has now been furnished with such a convenience for the repair of ships. It will, no doubt, be fully appreciated by the snip-owners and masters engaged in the trade of thoee parts. The floating dock at Callao, on the coast of Peru (an Illustration of which we gave on the 26th of January), and the floating dock built for the French Government at Saigon, in Cochin-China, are on a similar principle but constructed of iron.”
