photo of Joe Dagg Joachim L. Dagg, took his diploma of science at the Free University Berlin, Germany, in the Faculty of Biology. As a research fellow of Prof. A.F.G. Dixon, University of East Anglia at Norwich, UK, he studied the behaviour of the sexual generation of aphids -- aphids reproduce parthenogenetically throughout the year, except for one sexual generation with mating females and males in autumn. This ressearch lead to his doctoral dissertation at the University of Göttingen, Germany, with the title "Strategies of Sexual Reproduction in Aphids." It is published online by the Public and University Library, Göttingen, at http://webdoc.sub.gwdg.de/diss/2002/dagg/dagg.pdf).

Along with this research came an interest in more general questions about ecology and evolution as well as the history and philosophy of these sciences.
