Maroussia Oakley read English (Literature and Language) as a mature student, at the University of Birmingham, gaining a BA (Hons) IIi in 1998, after which she received an MA in Book History, gaining Distinction for her dissertation, “‘False Delicasy’ & ‘Fashion’: The pressures of Patronage and Reception on the Publishing of John Clare’s Poems Descriptive of Rural Life and Scenery.” She received her doctorate in 2012 from The Institute of English Studies, School of Advanced Study, University of London, under the supervision of Professor Simon Eliot and Professor Paul Goldman. Her thesis was entitled: ‘A Spark of Genius’: An Investigation into the Publishing Context of the Book and Periodical Illustrations of Arthur Hughes (1832-1915).
She has published articles on on J.E. Millais and Arthur Hughes in The The Burlington Magazine (2004); Print Quarterly (2009, 2011); The Journal of Pre-Raphaelite Studies (2010), IBIS Journal (2011). She currently has an article on the publisher Alexander Strahan (1835-1918) in the press, for Publishing History.
