Photograph of RHERobert H. Ellison is Professor of English and former department chair at East Texas Baptist University, where he has taught since 1995. He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Texas, studied divinity at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and earned his M.A. and Ph.D. at the University of North Texas.

Dr. Ellison's scholarly specialty is Victorian religious rhetoric. His work began with The Victorian Pulpit (Susquehanna University Press, 1998), in which he examined how the sermon functioned as both oration and essay in nineteenth-century Britain. Since then, he has published two journal articles, a chapter in a collection, and several book reviews; he has also presented papers at more than a dozen academic conferences, including three in the United Kingdom.

His current project is editing A New History of the Sermon: The Nineteenth Century, to be published by Brill in 2009.
