Study of an Interior with an Open Door, Windsor

Solomon Alexander Hart, RA (1806-1881)

August 1831

Pencil and watercolour on cream wove paper (with scratching out for highlights)

294 mm x 155 mm

Collection of the Royal Academy of Arts

Object number 03/7475

Bequeathed by Richard Phené Spiers, 1916

Doorways, as well as ceilings, fireplaces and so on, feature in a number of Hart's drawings. Perhaps doorways are the most intriguing, opening into the unknown, and with particular scope for the effects of light and shade.
