And yet they are uncivil at times

Scene: A District Railway Station. Train approaching. Lights and large placard on engine indicative of its destination. List of stations at which it calls posted conspicuously on station.

Porter (distinctly, too): — “Bishop’s Road, Royal Oak, Westbourne Park, Notting Hill, Latimer Road, Uxbridge Road, Addison Road, and Mansion House train.”

Fussy Old Lady: — “Oh! Hi! I say, porter, does this train go to Westbourne Park?”

Fun (22 December 1880): 254
