Ludwig Brieger (1849-1919), a German physician and organic chemist who specialised in naturally-occurring toxins or "toxalbumins": skatole, 1877; cadaverine and putrescine (tetramethylenediamine), 1885. His work related to the chemical group of ptomaines and to bacterial food-poisoning such as botulism.
